This is my first
Spring Festival in China and I feel very
privileged to be spending it in Qing dao. Although
my Chinese friends and colleagues have told me a
lot about this festive period,I'm still not
entirely aware of the surprises that are in store
forme. Fam ily, food and fireworks, appear to be
very much part of this special occasion, along
with colourful red lanterns and stunning
decorations they are truly a feast for the eyes.
It reminds me a lot of a W estern traditional
Christmas, whereby friends and fam ily often
travel long distances to be together to celebrate
a special time of the year. I am very fortunate to
have been invited to spend this special occacion
with a Chinese friend and her fam ily in Qingdao,
which will enable me to experience the Spring
Festival in true Chinese style. During my week's
holiday, I plan to explore Qingdao and observe
first- hand the cultural traditions and
festivities that take place.
Finally, I would like to wish everyone in
Qingdao a very happy Spring Festival and to say
that I feel honoured to be here and part ofit. Guo
