Race 6 was completed on the third game day of 2008 Paralympic Sailing Competition. Originally due to sail three races, only one race took place as racing did not get away until shortly after 15:00. Racing will start early today as officials try to catch up the missed two scheduled races. French and USA teams take the lead after 6 races in each class.
John Ruf from the United States is the new leader of the 1-Person Keelboat (2.4mR) competition on Thursday afternoon, Jens Andersen (Denmark) led Thierry Schmitter (Netherlands), Heiko Kroger (Germany) and Bjornar Erikstad (Norwat) at the first mark of the course, but it was Erikstad who led at the next mark with Helena Lucas (Great Britain), the only female sailor in the fleet, following closely.
USA team still lead after six races in the SKUD18. The experience and expertise of Scandone showed as he and Maureen McKinnon Tucker poked their nose in for second and happily retain their series lead. Chinese crew Jia Hailiang/Yang Xiujuan reached the fifth place overall after yesterday’s races.
Bruno Jourdren, Herve Larhant and Nicolas Vimont-Vicary (France) continued to distance themselves from the rest of the fleet by winning the only Sonar race yesterday. The French team's margin grew to six points following a solitary light air race.
In addition, RICKHAM Alexandra (GBR) received a bunch of Chinese roses from staff of Paralympic Sub-village to celebrate his birthday before going on shore which was a surprise to him.
