After three months of effort, construction workers now began tackling the main part of the train station project due to be completed in June 2008.

　　The workers have excavated 400,000 cubic meters of earth and stone from the foundation pits. The pit in the south, being 15,000 square meters and consisting of two floors, will be built as the future guest hall and the pit in the north, covering 30,000 square meters of land will be serving as the entrance, the underground parking lot and other auxiliary premises. The remodeling and construction work is scheduled to be completed at the end of June 2008, just before the Olympic games commences. The style and color of the future station will emulate that of the European watchtowers and stand as one of Qingdao's symbols.
