| The city made outstanding
achievements in the construction sector in 2003. Qingdao
became a better city to live.
The city¡¯s construction departments achieved an added value
of 19 billion Yuan, increasing 27% over that of last year, and
accounting for 11% of the city¡¯s GDP; investment to fixed
assets increased by 27% to reach 17.6 billion Yuan, accounting
for 32% of the city¡¯s total.
The construction departments have completed the rebuilding
of the first and third bathing beaches; the second phase of
the East to West express way; and the seaside pavement. The
public place at Huiquan Bay was being built according to
schedule; the sailing regatta schedule was okayed by the
International Sailing Committee and the first phase of the
Liuting Airport extension project is nearing completion.
