Qingdao has made strenuous efforts on large scale tree planting and protection on forest resources these years. The new forestation area doubled each year.

The Qingdao Municipal Party Committee and the Government made the strategic planning on large-scale forestation so as to realize its leap-foreword development in 3 to 5 years' time. The city has planted some 247,500 mu trees, increasing 135% over that of last year. The forest tree seeding area increased 136% to reach 629,000 mu. Some 6.03 million trees have been planted, representing an annual increase of 43%. The city's forest coverage reaches 23% and the city sees an new forest coverage of 1.83%.

The large-scale tree planting requires the whole society's participation. The city took the lead in Shandong Province to reform its forestry property. 177 enterprises from home and abroad are introduced to Qingdao for the development of its forestry industry. The actually used foreign capital reached 17.8 million US dollars and the domestic capital 334 million Yuan. Some 102,000 mu trees have been planted. Statistics show that last year some 2 million people took part in the voluntary tree planting activities, ranking top in China. (QDTV__Seven Days)
