On Nov.5, Qingdao Port completed the 7-month-long transferring the foreign trade shipping lines to the new port area.

The transferring was started from March 18 and ended on November 4th. During the period, all the shipping lines were able to operate normally. 17 ne w shipping lines were developed, which makes the port's linking to all the major ports over the world into reality. More than 40 world famous shipping companies have opened their businesses at the port. The Qianwan new port area now has demonstrated the appearance of an international large port with 72 international shipping lines and over 300 ships on the schedule. The port's handling capacity of containers is expected to be listed among the world's top 10 in 2005 and to become top5 in 2015. The city government is implementing the strategy of port leading to the development of the city, which makes the port economy a pillar supporting the city's overall economic development.
