The Qingdao Long-Distance Bus Terminal will be closed to the public next month for the building of A 900 square meters waiting hall and a 7,000 square meters underground parking lot. The extension of the terminal will take several months till June of 2008.
Involving over 49 million Yuan of investment, the project plans to add an extension of 9,541 square meters of floorage to the current terminal and increase yearly dispatched number of passenger from 3.3 million men times to 3.6 million men times. Modeling on the air terminal, the multi-functional bus station consists of a waiting hall, a ticket hall, consulting offices and so on. Due to the extension work, the East Bus Depot and the bus depot on the Inner Mongolia Road will share much of the transport, for the convenience of passengers.
The current bus depot started operation in 1991. As the passenger number has kept growing over the years, it is unable to meet people's need. The new depot, after completion next year, is expected to better serve domestic and foreign passengers as well as the 2008 Olympic Regatta.
