With 1.8 billion Yuan of investment in place the Bay bridge project has gone well under way with over one thousand driven cast-in-place piles being already set up.
The Qingdao Bay Bridge has been the first large-scale bridge project in the frostbound sea area in North China. It also has the world's largest number piles of 5,227 cast-in-situ bored piles. Once the piles are set up, platforms will be build whereon. Next come the piers. Due to the uneven and complicated layer of earth and high level of rock strength, the drilling part was exceptionally difficult. The 13 construction units have built 10,000 meters of trestle to transfer goods and personnel to ensure the smooth implementation of the project. Over 20,000 workers are now working at the Huangdao, Hongdao and Licunhe segments with 2 billion Yuan, or one fifth of investment to be in place within 2007.
