The layout of Qingdao's future traffic has gained the government's support and is ready for implementation. By the year 2010, the local administration will invest 56.8 billion Yuan in the building of the North Cangkou Railway Station, and the Passenger Dedicated railway Line within Qingdao, in addition to 998 new taxies in the next three years.
The 2.5 billion Yuan worth North Cangkou Railway Station will be sharing most of the long-distance passenger transferring, leaving the current Qingdao Railway Station primarily for the high-speed motor train units.
Qindao will also allocate 1 billion Yuan to the construction of the inner-city passenger dedicated railway lines by 2010.
Aimed at constructing a "one-hour economic circle" and a "three-hour economic circle in the peninsular", Qingdao will complete the building of the South Jinan-Qingdao highway, the Jiping Expressway and the Weiwu Branch, Qingdao section. By 2010, Qingdao will have over 8,000 kilometers of road with the expressways exceeding 800 kilometers, Level-I highways, 1,000 kilometers and transit time among the nearby cities in the peninsular being shortened within one hour.
The local government will also build an expressway network for public buses. 10 new lines will start operation within the next two years with the number of bus routes increasing to 145.
In addition, the Qingdao government will increase 998 taxies in future, or 10,000 taxies in all by 2010 with the GPS call service installed in the taxies beginning service after January of 2008.
