Mount Tai selected as Int'l Geoparks

    The photo taken on Sept. 17 shows the Stone Forest, which possesses typical geological structure of breaks,
folds and gravitational gliding tectonics, at Mount Tai (Taishan Mountain) of east China's Shandong Province. Mount Tai was selected as International Geopark, at the second UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) International Conference on Geoparks held in Belfast, capital of Northern Ireland on Monday. Mount Tai Geopark embraces the oldest stratum in north China, covering an area of about 158.6 square kilometers. Before being listed as International Geopark, Mount Tai was listed by UNESCO in 1987 as a world natural and cultural heritage for its magnificent scenery and splendid culture. (Xinhua Photo)
