¡¡¡¡A court in Shandong Province recently ordered a property developer to pay
over 500,000 yuan (US$62,400) to a farmer for making ear-splitting noises that
caused the deaths of over 1,300 animals, Bandao Metropolis News reported. ¡¡¡¡
¡¡¡¡In May 2005, a construction started next to the
farm where Qiu raised
almost 1,400 animals, such as foxes and raccoons.
¡¡¡¡The animals soon became very agitated by the noise, with many of them dying
in the following days.
¡¡¡¡To prove that the deaths were directly linked to the noise, Qiu applied to
the local court for a scientific assessment, which stated that the noise was the
direct cause of the animals' deaths.
