Weihai, a coastal city in East China's Shandong Province, has emerged as the winner of the China Habitat Award for 2005, the Ministry of Construction said Thursday.

　　Thirty-four projects won the 2005 "Award for Best Practices in Improvement of Human Settlements".

　　Thes e projects include the digital city project carried out by the East District of Beijing, a waste water recycling project in Tianjin, a residential compound for migrant workers in Daqing City of Heilongjiang Province, the protection of the ancient city wall in Ganzhou City of Jiangxi Province, among others.

　　The two prizes were set up by the Ministry in 2000 to commend local authorities, organizations and individuals who have distinguished themselves in improving human settlements and promoting sustainable development.

　　Other cities which have won the China Habitat Awards since 2001 include Shenzhen, Dalian, Hangzhou, Sihezi, Nanning, Qingdao, Xiamen, Sanya, Haikou, Yantai and Yangzhou.
