The Tongsan Expressway Qingdao Section is listed among the 12 major projects the municipal government has vowed to do for the people. The 200- km-long expressway opened to traffic at the end of this month. Here's the bird's eye view of the China's longest expressway.

　　The Tong san Expressway runs from Tongjiang city in Northern China's Heilongjiang province to Sanya city in Southern China's Hainan province. It is the first expressway running along the eastern seaside and linking south and north China. The 201-kilometer-long Qingdao section has a designed speed of 120 kilometers per hour with 4- lanes in two directions. The investment totaled 5 billion Yuan.

　　The construction of the road started on December 9th, 2001 and was completed after 23 months, one year ahead of the construction schedule of the Communications Ministry.

　　The Tongsan Expressway connects 5 districts and county-level cities of Qingdao and 31 towns as well as the other two port- cities of Yantai and Rizhao. It takes only 8 hours to arrive in Shanghai and 6 hours to Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu Province.

　　With the completion of the expressway, the expressway length of Qingdao ranks first in China by possessing 528 kilometers of expressway. (top86)
