The 13th Municipal Government held the first enlarged session recently at the conference center of the Municipal Building. The government summarized the work in the first half of the year and made plans for the later half of the year.

　　Mayor Xiageng addressed the session. He s aid the municipal government has made achievements in the fight against SARS in the first half of this year. The city's GDP enjoyed rapid growth, the structural adjustment and the construction of key projects gained new progress. Urban construction and foreign trade made new achievements.

　　Xiageng said generally the government did well in the first half of this year. But there were some aspects that needed improvement. He urged further progress in the aspects of foreign economy and trade, key projects construction and safe production.

　　Xiageng stressed the city should spare no efforts in maintaining a good development tendency of the economy in the later half of this year. Efforts will also be made in the aspects of industrial economy, tertiary and rural economy so as to increase the farmers' income.

　　Concerning the foreign trade, the city was asked to ensure the fulfillment of an export of 10 billion us dollars and utilizing 3.9 billion us dollars. The construction of parks should be sped up and to make them the increasing points for local economy. The government was urged to solve the problems, which were raised by the foreign investors.

　　Xiageng urged the city to further deepen the systematic reforms for state owned assets, urban administration as well as investment and finance so as to make the economic development more dynamic.

　　He said the local government should place at the top of its agenda speeding up the building of housing for middle and low-income families. (top86)
