http://www.qingdaonews.com 2002-12-02 00:00:00

In order to solve the problem of the city's traffic bottleneck and meet the 2008 Olympic Games, the city government has invested nearly 2 billion yuan in road constructions for the past 2 years. The city's traffic network has taken shape to date.

Statistics show that th
e city's road area per person was only 12.7 sm, which is much lower than those of the traffic-advanced cities. However, the increase of vehicles was 8 times as much as the road increase during the same period last year. In addition, the number of tourists from home and abroad has been increasing year by year, adding extra burden to the city's traffic facilities. Under such circumstances, the city government has lanuched a group of road construction projects, including the first phase of the East-west Expressway, the reconstrucitons of Anshan Road, Nanjing Road and Changsha Road. Up to now, the city's traffic network has started taking shape. After the completion of the East-west Expressway, the road accessibility connecting the city's east and west will increase at least 4 times higher than before. A complete city traffic network is expected to be established in the city by 2008.
