A leading official of the secretariat of the 16th National Congress of the
Communist Party of China (CPC) lent explanation to the Amendment to the
Constitution of the CPC, which was adopted on Thursday.
The general principle followed in the current revision of the constit
ution is
to uphold the guidance of Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping
Theory and the Party's basic line, to conscientiously implement the important
"Three Represents" theory, including the major theoretical viewpoints and major
principles and policies established in Jiang Zemin's report to the 16th Party
Congress. This will meet the requirements arising from the CPC congress, the
work of the Party and Party building, the official said.
In recent years, progress has been made in strengthening and developing the
Party, from which valuable experience has been gained.
In particular, the important "Three Represents" theory put forward by Jiang
Zemin is a condensed reflection of the fundamental needs created by global
changes to strengthen Party building and promote the great cause of building
socialism with Chinese characteristics.
"All this necessitates a revision of the constitution, to include the
important 'Three Represents' theory," said the official.
