Qingdao Port has completed a total handling capacity of 100,020,000 tons in 2002 up to October 19. It is the second time that its handling capacity has exceeded 100 million tons after the first time last year.Among the total number of the handled goods by Qingdao Port, 67.6% are foreign trade commodities.

This figure is listed the second among all the domestic coastal ports. The amount of handled ore products is listed at the top among its domestic counterparts. The number of handled containers exceeded 2.7 million during the past 10 months of this year. This figure is listed at the third in China. Since last March, the port has implemented the strategy of transferring the foreign trade ship routes from the old port area to the new one. 80% of the ship routes to Japan, Southeast Asia and Europe have been successfully transferred. The new port area with excellent natural environment and advanced facilities improves the working efficiency in a large scale. It is expected that the port will completed a total handling capacity of 120 million tons with the handled containers of 3.4 million.
