Accor ding to the newly-issued development blueprint by the local government, the departments concerned and the related enterprises should take the advantage of China's accession into WTO and hosting the 2008 Olympic Games. They should also make positive efforts to accelerate the pace of developing the 4 industries including auto, ship building, food and clothing production. It is expected that the 4 industries will become the pillars in the local industrial sector for future development with a total production value reaching 100 billion yuan in 3 years.

According to the plan, by 2005, the local auto industry will realize a sales income of 28 billion yuan. The city will initially become one of the important ship building bases in China with a yearly production capacity reaching 200,000 tons and a production value of 5 billion yuan. The food industry will accelerate the pace of introducing foreign investment in order to make the total production value reach 28 billion yuan in 3 years. Qingdao Beer has set the aim of increasing its beer sales volume to 5 million tons covering above 20% of the domestic market and becoming one of the world top 5 beer breweries. The sales income of the clothing industry is expected to increase to 40 billion yuan from 17.4 billion over last year.
