The 2002 Qingdao Promotion Week of City Operation raised curtain at the Shandong International Conference and Exhibition Center.

The 5-day activity, with the theme of New Ideology, New Practice, New City Construction, was sponsored by the Qingdao Construction Conmission. It aimed at promoting the ideological transfer on city construction, the reform of governmental operation, and renovation of the city administration system. The activity consisted of 8 parts, which included a forum on city operation, use-right auction and transfer of state-owned lands, promotion of city construction of Olympic projects, city planning and construction facilities show, Housing and Real Estate show, East China House and Technology Fair, and a seminar.

Through city operation, Qingdao has raised a large amount of funds for city construction and completed the construction of the new town in the east part with a cost of 12.2 billion Yuan, the shed area renovation which involved 100 households, and other major projects. The city is more open in the fields of public utility and attracted investors from home and abroad. The City will also get the fund of 8 billion Yuan for its Olympic projects construction in this way.
