Qingdao set up a supervi sory system recently to assure safety of export farm products . It also set a safety goal to guarantee the quality of export farm products so as to upgrade their competitiveness in the international market.

Qingdao registered an export of US$1.15 billion for farm products last year, accounting for 16% of the city's total export value. Farm products export ranked third following machinery & electronic products and textile products. But the export of local farm products is restricted by its quality safety.

Concerned departments worked out technical quality standards and operational rules which cover the whole production process of farm products to assure safety of export products. The farm products exporters are guided to make production according to the international standards so that their products can be up to the standards of their importers. Local authorities also set safety goals for export farm products, that is , by the year 2005, Qingdao will establish a standardized agricultural system and quality supervisory system, basically realizing the overall supervision of the producing of farm products. A perfected agricultural standardized system and quality supervisory system will be set up by the year 2008 and realize the intensified and scaled production of export farm products.
