In recent years, Qingdao has been continuously building up the new open economic pattern, expanding the cooperation ranges with the World Fortune Top 500 and has become a new highland for attracting the investment from the World Fortune Top 500. According to the statistics, just in 2016 Qingdao has signed 29 foreign-funded projects in succession with many World Fortune Top 500 including Volkswagen, Siemens, Bombardier, Amazon, Continental, Mapfre Group, and Goldman Sachs and the total foreign investment reached 1.36 billion USD, ranking 1st in Shandong Province.

    So far, 133 of the World Fortune Top 500 enterprises have invested 261 projects in Qingdao including Volkswagen, Amazon, Ericsson, Nestle, HSBC, Dupont, Hitachi, Caterpillar, Shell, and Total. The projects cover many different fields including traditional industries such as petrochemical and chemical industry, textile and garment, food and beverage as well as emerging industries such as modern manufacturing, electronic technology, new energy, energy conservation, and environment protection.
