The 13th five-year plan of Nationwide Island Protection Work recently published by the State Administration of China puts forward that by 2020, a batch of island fit for living and tourism will be cultivated and various island ecological exploration and utilization modes including tourism and fishery will be formed. It is listed into the plan to cultivate 11 island tourism areas located in Lingshan Island and surrounding islands in the West Coast New Zone of Qingdao.

With the altitude of 513.6 m, Lingshan Island covers the total area of 7.66 square kilometers. Located in the Yellow Sea, the southeast of District Huangdao, it is reputed as the third highest Chinese island next to Taiwan Island and Hainan Island. Because it is recorded in ancient books that “in this place there are clouds before raining, dawn commences before the sunrise. Therefore what a holy place!” so the island gets its name. This island enjoys high altitude, broad horizon and eternally changing scenery. Peculiar marine corrosion of extremely high viewing value is formed in the southeast part of the island for the seawater intrusion. Fisher families in the island have exceptional customs. Terraced fields, green trees, blue sea, red tiles and blue sky enhance each other’s beauty. Above the sea, it looks like a gorgeous jade floating in the sea; therefore the place has the honorable title of Emerald Jade Island. On April 2014, the island got the approval to build up a national level ocean park. Yu Feng (Picture: “Lao Hu Zui”, a scenic spot in Lingshan Island)
