With a total length of 1.5 meters, the new dustbin is divided into four parts which are painted in different colors. Residents can put a variety of bottles in the navy blue section, paper in the sky blue section, waste batteries in the red section and other waste in the grey section. In addition, the dustbins feature slots which can help residents separate their garbage by categories.
To date, the city has been scattered with 134 sorting dustbins in its main tourist attractions, including Xiaoyushan (Little Fish Hill), Zhanqiao Pier, Wusi Square, Music Square and Luxun Park.
A staff member from the Shinan district city administration and law enforcement bureau said that the dustbins are equipped with locks which can be accessed by cleaning crews who are required to collect the rubbish separately.
