Yesterday morning, deputy secretary of the CPC Qingdao Committee, mayor of Qingdao Xia Geng inspected the environment improvement work along railway. He stressed that government and the Party units in each level shall attach great importance to the urban ecological system and step up urban environment protection and the key sector is the environment along the railway line to guarantee a clean and tidy image of Qingdao and to become a National Civilized City and a National Forestation Model City.

    The mayor visited in sequence Taiyuan Road, Guiyang Road, Dejiang Raod, Siliubei Road and studied in details the environment upgrade along the railway line and he also heard reports from relevant districts and sectional and corporate officials and arrange work on spot.

    Xia pointed out that in recent years, Qingdao strengthened the environment regulation power through the hosting of Olympic Sailing Regatta to forge good and comfortable living environment for all citizens. While we acknowledge our achievements, we shall also understand clearly some problems and deficiency in the urban environment especially the dirty, disorder and under grade problem along the railway line.

    Xia noted that the railway is also an important window to showcase the overall image of a city like the airport, highway and port, a lot of domestic travelers make their journey through railway, so the environment surrounding the railway will have a direct impact to the image of the city. Each relevant districts and department shall clearly understand their own obligations, tabulate scheme, take measures and quick actions to improve the environment surrounding the railway line and to have earlier effect. The enterprises along the railway line shall live up to their social obligation through making improvement of the environment within their own boundaries. The enterprises along the railway line shall integrate themselves to the ambient environment to leave good impression to visitors of Qingdao, to facilitate a good living environment for the residents along the railway line and to make new contribution to make Qingdao a National Civilized City and National Forestation Model City.

    Xia and his entourage then came to the south of Ruichang Road railway bridge and planted some saplings together with staff from Sifang District government community offices and enterprises of the district and wrote their names on the banner showing our determination to become national forestation model city.
