LIMA, June 10 -- Peruvian former President Alberto Fujimori is "satisfactorily" recovering from surgery to remove a cancerous lesion from his tongue, oncologist Doctor Pedro Sanchez said on Tuesday.
"Fujimori's health is satisfactory, his post-operation evolution is very good and he will leave the Lima cancer hospital in the next hours", Sanchez said. Fujimori, 69, underwent the operation Thursday.
Sanchez said Fujimori needs periodic checkups to make sure the lesion does not return.
Fujimori is expected to go back to jail on Tuesday. Presiding judge Cesar San Martin postponed Fujimori's trial early June and ruled it would resume on Wednesday.
Fujimori is accused of human rights violations, murder and kidnapping and murder of 25 people in early 1990's. He faces 30 years in prison if convicted.
