(JAKARTA, April 22) -- At 4:40 p.m. local time (0840 GMT) on Tuesday, the Jakarta leg of the Olympic torch relay concluded successfully with the last five torchbearers sharing in the lighting of the flame cauldron in the Indonesian capital's Bung Karno Sports Complex. Indonesia is the sacred flame's 14th stop on its global route, and also its last break in Southeast Asia.

The eighty torchbearers that carried the flame along its 7 km route included famous athletes Tan Liong Houe, a 76-year-old former Olympic football player, and Taufik Hidayat, who took the gold in Athens for badminton and is currently Indonesia's top athlete in the sport.

Short speeches were given at the sports building pointing out the Indonesian people's enthusiastic welcome of the Olympic torch relay and the Games itself, which contributes to strengthening the athletic spirit in the county.
Rita Subowo, president of the Indonesian Olympic Committee, offered her support for the Beijing Games and expressed wishes for the continued friendship between Indonesia and China.
Jiang Xiaoyu, executive vice-president of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) thanked Indonesia for its supportive efforts. Citing the traditionally cooperative relationship between the two countries, he invited Indonesian citizens to Beijing to watch the Olympic Games.
On Tuesday night, the flame will depart for its next stop, Canberra, Australia.
