A 65-year-old man plunged three nails into his face because the toothache he suffered was finally too painful to bear.

    Surnamed Zhang, a resident of Penglai, Shandong province, had refused to see dentists because of the high medical costs. He would self-medicate when his teeth gave him trouble.
