WASHINGTON, Oct. 9 -- U.S. President George W. Bush talked on Tuesday over the telephone with his South Korean counterpart Roh Moo-hyun on the Inter-Korean summit, the White House said.

Roh "briefed the president on the results and his discussions at the Inter-Korean summit that was held last week," White House spokeswoman Dana Perino told reporters.

The two leaders agreed that the first and foremost goal is the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, Perino said.

Roh had two rounds of summit talks with Kim Jong Il, the top leader of DPRK, on last Wednesday, with the two sides agreeing to promoting peace and cooperation on the Korean Peninsula.

The summit is the second of its kind since the peninsula was divided more than half a century ago. Roh's predecessor, Kim Dae-jung, traveled to the DPRK for the first inter-Korean summit in June 2000.
