The Women's Windsurfer event on the RS:X finally got underway
in Qingdao on Day Four. Defending Olympic champion Faustine Merret of France
took the lead, but was closely pursued by sailors from the host country, China.
While France holds the yell
ow jersey in three of the eleven Olympic events,
the sailors at the top across the remaining eight events represent eight
different nations - a clear demonstration of the depth of talent in Qingdao.
China continued to deliver some fantastic results, not only in the women's
but also the men's race, while Chinese sailors finished 1-2 in the overall
standings.
In the women's Yngling race, the Chinese trio triumphed in race four.
Despite a poor show in race five, they still stand second overall.
China lacked outstanding performers in the other competitions.
