Due to insufficient
wind, two events didn't take place as scheduled and the other six events had
only one race delivered at the Qingdao International Regatta on Tuesday.
Steven Le Fevre of the Netherlands won race 3, edging Danish Anders Nyholm
Yholm into second place afte
r a fierce competition in Laser but top three
maintained the same in overall rankings.
Evagelos Chimonas of Greece still takes the lead with a margin of 10 points
ahead of second-placed sailor Maximillian Soh of Singapore. Soh finished eighth
on Tuesday, while the bronze medalists at the Athens Olympics Vasilij Zbogar of
Slovenia secured his third place with seven points earned in race 3.
Different from Laser, top three teams in 49er secure their overall positions.
There was a minor shift in overall in the top three as Stevie Morrison and Ben
Rhodes of Britain advanced to second place, beating Athanasios Pachoumas and
Athanasios Siouzios of Greece, who are third.
Emmanuel Dyen and Yann Rocherieux of France still paced the race. Olympic
bronze medalists and world champions Chris Draper and Simon Hiscocks of Britain
ranked fourth overall.
Draper was happy with their performance. "Today we are very lucky. We won the
first race and in the second race over the starting line, but the race was
abandoned. We are quite happy," said Draper.
"We find this is a light wind venue. It's a challenge for everybody and it's
the same for everybody. That's the thing most important. We have all been well
trained, so I don't think it's a problem."
"There are a lot of people who are very, very strong from other countries and
we are just trying, and we will continue to try until qualified for the Olympics
hopefully. Because we are a very strong team from Britain, we have to reach the
Olympics. We just keep on trying and see how we go," he added.
Like Laser and 49er, no big differences happened in 470 Women, Laser Radial
and Tornado.
Star and RS:X Men were cancelled due to insufficient wind. For Star, the race
will resume Wednesday and the next scheduled races for the RS:X Men are to be
held on August 24.
