Hunan hit by droughts

¡¡¡¡CHANGSHA, Aug. 2 (Xinhuanet) -- The continuous high temperature causes severe droughts in Hunan, bringing about water shortage to the central China province, said the Provincial Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters here Tuesday.

¡¡¡¡As of Tuesday, 81 counties of 11 citie
s and prefectures in Hunan are greatly affected by the droughts.

¡¡¡¡The famous tourism city of Zhangjiajie suffers the most serious water shortage in the province.

¡¡¡¡The continuous droughts have brought difficulties to the drinking water supply to 300,000 people and 50,000 livestock in the city.

¡¡¡¡About 70 small reservoirs in the city are on the verge of drying up and 137 rivers and streams have sees no water flow sinceJune.

¡¡¡¡Yongshun county in Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecturehas no rainfall reports for consecutive 37 days and residents and livestock suffer serious water shortage.

¡¡¡¡The Hunan Provincial Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters have urged local departments concerned to divert water scientifically to drought-hit areas and called for all efforts to ensure the quality of drinking water and to avoid wasteof water resources. Enditem ¡¡¡¡
