¡¡¡¡One of the country's top political consultants has urged businesses to
fulfil their social responsibilities.
¡¡¡¡Vice-Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political
Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Li Meng voiced his encouragement at a forum last
week in Qing
dao, East China's Shandong Province. "A harmonious social
environment is based on the harmonious development of individual enterprises,"
he said.
¡¡¡¡According to Li, as well as obeying laws and regulations, enterprises
should bear credibility in mind when doing business, seek development through
the circular economy and be active in social welfare.
¡¡¡¡Governments at all levels must also act according to the law to safeguard
the legal rights and interests of enterprises, the vice-chairman added.
¡¡¡¡The legal interests of many private enterprises are often violated by
interference from local governments, echoed CPPCC National Committee member Bao
Yujun.
¡¡¡¡Latest statistics from the Guangdong Industry and Commerce Association
showed 60 per cent of infringements complained by the private sector in the
province are related to local governments.
¡¡¡¡"A mechanism that enables the government to rectify its mistakes should be
set up from top to bottom," said Bao.
¡¡¡¡More than 60 participants, mainly entrepreneurs, scholars and political
consultants, brainstormed on how to build harmonious enterprises and society
during the three-day event, sponsored by the China Economic and Social Council
(CESC).
