In the eastern Chinese port city of Qingdao, Premier Wen Jiabao met with
Thai counterpart, Thaksin Shinawatra, on the sidelines of the annual Asia
Cooperation Dialogue me
eting.
Wen said Thaksin's participation reflects the unique friendship between the
two countries. The ACD is a grouping of 22 members, set up on the initiative of
the Thai leader two years ago. Economic cooperation topped the agenda with
Thaksin reiterating his country's recognition of China as a market economy.
In a separate sideline meeting, Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing joined
counterparts from member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
They raised various issues and agreed to consolidate the ASEAN's relations with
Japan, India, the EU, Australia and New Zealand.
